The Mouse & The Mask

MF DOOM is the only artist to appear on this list twice. That’s saying a great deal about how we feel about his artistry. On this effort, he hooks up with Danger Mouse—the brains behind Gnarls Barkley and The Gorillaz’ Demon Days—to form a duo called Danger Doom. Here are some snippets of what the crew thought…

Thesis: “Danger Mouse is brilliant. And line for line, I don’t know if there is an emcee display that can rival what’s on this album. The crazy sh*t is when you stop basking in DOOM’s lyrical display and technique and listen to what he’s saying. To hear how far the emcee has come is remarkable.”

Hero: “With constant appearances from my favorite adult swim characters the album never lulls and is ridiculously entertaining and funny from start to end. Danger Mouse often talks about how he is an autere, or an artist that needs to have complete control over his work--well he definitely did so here. He also talks about his production would not be complete or successful unless he is complimented by an artist who is willing to go where he wants to go and beyond. It is evident that MF DOOM is just that artist.”

And, Brolic: “You take the producer of a group that’s known to the public only as cartoons, team him up with an Emcee whose rhymes, character, lifestyle and story can only be rivaled in with the imagination of Stan Lee and you get what Spiderman is to movies, in a musical score. This album is like having DePalma and Pacino in their prime, creating what could be their best work individually to make a masterpiece together.”

Nuff said.
