I've been a fan of Theophilus London's music for about 2 years now and one thing I was worried about when he got his label deal was the compromising of his sound. Fortunately, we don't have to worry about that on his new album,Timez Are Weird These Days. Mr. London stays true to his nonchalant hip hop flow over new wave/pop production. It's everything I hoped it would be. Picking "Why Even Try" featuring the talented Sara Quin as the lead single definitely sets the tone of the album and gives those who aren't familiar with the Brooklyn artist, an idea of what to expect. Some of my favorite tracks include the laid back "Wine and Chocolates", the nostalgic "Why Even Try", the rock driven "Lighthouse" and the dance track "Love Is Real". Theophilus London may not be the most prolific emcee, but what he does works for him. He drops a dope punchline here and there, but his style, charisma and delivery work well to mask the lack of consistent "thought provoking lyricism". Overall, with Timez Are Weird These Days, Theophilus encourages us to celebrate what has become of things. It shouldn't be too hard to do with tunes like these.
