Above average: Not too shabby, commendable effort
3.5
Mississippi producer/emcee David Banner teams up with producer 9th Wonder for the highly anticipated "Death of a Pop Star". The whole theme of the album is that true Hip Hop shall prevail over the age of singing rappers and auto tune. The vibe of most of the album is mellow as it complements Banner's lyrical prowess. It kicks off with Diamonds on My Pinky, which Banner unleashes vicious lyrics. Tracks like The Light, have 9th Wonder and David Banner synced perfectly with the content and production. There's a well balance serving of cool "riding" tracks and hard southern hip hop on the album. One of my favorite tracks has to be Silly, because of production and Banner and 9th's flow. Collaborations range widely on this project from Ludacris, Anthony Hamilton, Marsha Ambrosius, Big Remo, Erykah Badu and more. But they don't saturate the project. "Death of a Pop Star" can definitely stand on its' own with Banner and 9th alone. Check this album out today and support the artist.
