Forgettable: I'd be amazed if I remember who the artist is.

Michael Jackson is gone. While the brevity of that fact still weighs heavy with his millions of fans there may be some musical solace in his unreleased music. Michael is the first of which will probably be several posthumous works by Michael Jackson. It features previous unreleased and unfinished tracks by the Pop king that were recorded at various different times of his life as he was making his foray back into the music scene. Problem is, Jackson, a consummate perfectionist, probably would not have wanted his fans to hear these tracks-unreleased and unfinished for a reason. Michael is an album that displays what was and what might have been. The lead single, a duet with Akon, Hold My Hand, is an uplifting song about friendship where Akon's voice meshes well with Jackson's falsetto. While the tracks weave in and out of Jackson's yesteryears, the production by Teddy Riley, Akon, and Lenny Kravtiz, is a solid representation of the sound we come to expect from Jackson. Monster features 50 Cent in a quirky combination that noticeably lacks Jackson's passion. The Lenny Kravitz produced (I Can't Make It) Another Day features the rocker and Jackson rocking out over an all-consuming love. Best of Joy, one of the last songs Jackson recorded in 2009, features Jackson in a soulful falsetto offering a glimpse into the musical direction he was heading. The most telling track Breaking News highlights the media obsession with his life evocative of his lament in the Scream duet with his sister, Janet. Although all of Jackson's vocals aren't as polished as he would have liked the inconsistency makes Jackson seem more human than mythical pop superstar on (I Like) The Way You Love Me where listeners hear Jackson direct the melody and drums of the song at the beginning and Much Too Soon, a Thriller-era Jackson song. Michael encompasses the sound and musicality of some of his most prolific albums without providing anything different in today's musical landscape. Listeners get to hear Jackson's voice again and that may be enough as Michael is a good enough album. While Michael is not a classic, it is a reminder of what we really lost.
