They call him Cee Lo Green. He is associated with and a founding father of many celebrated musical acts (Outkast, Goodie Mob, Gnarls Barkley) and has developed acclaimed solo projects of his own. His latest spontaneous combustion The Lady Killer is, among other things, natural vocal expression without restraint. There is no emceeing on here (check "Big Ole Words" if you want to applaud Mr. Green's rhyming ability). The album title and singles like "Bodies" and "Love Gun" suggest that women easily fall prey to the makings of love/lust. However, on "No One's Gonna Love You" Mr. Green demonstrates the vulnerability emotions can have on men as well. Songs like "It's Ok" and "Old Fashioned" are heart-felt and sprinkled with the indelible sound of sixties soul, but don't be quick to categorize them as faulty imitations. That ambiance you hear in Mr. Green's voice is all his own. Additional bursts of flavor are also prevalent in the commercial single "F*!k You" and "Bright Lights Bigger City". With notable production from Salaam Remi and Jack Splash, The Lady Killer is, if nothing else, adult entertainment and further illustration that Mr. Green is unlike others and he cannot pretend.
