Shontelle
No Gravity

Average-ish: A few nuggets, but could be better.

I can only imagine Barbados-born singer-songwriter Shontelle has a hard time being compared to that other singer from Barbados and it doesn't help that Shontelle performs within the same genre (pop) in trying to make a name for herself. Shontelle's sophomore effort No Gravity is definitely a strong attempt. This album shows more growth from her previous album Shontelligence and is a lot more pop-focused. No Gravity is a stream-lined pop album that is an easy listen except for the fact that most of the songs could have been sung by anyone. Shontelle's voice is smooth and strong which fits the album's stand-out song and first single Impossible. However, the rest of the album fails to showcase Shontelle's voice enough in order to make the songs distinctive. The themes of love and heartbreak run throughout the album and there is a nod to her first debut single T-Shirt remixed by The-Dream. If you like a good pop album and want to dance I suggest Perfect Nightmare and DJ Made Me Do It (which features cool kid Asher Roth). No Gravity is a solid pop album; it's just going to take a little more for Shontelle to step out of the shadows to become an international pop star.
