The human struggle is amazing. We constantly fight with ourselves for the things that we want, but don't need..and the things we need...we don't want. At some point, you wish that your needs and your wants will align and everything will just be easy. Self evaluation causes you to doubt your own self as you attempt to merge the two. In Arthur Lewis' "If We Were", that is exactly the picture that comes to mind. The person you need to be is reaching out to you, but your insecurities and level of comfort cause you to ignore it.
