Tamar Kali is an Afro-Punk singer hailing from Brooklyn, New York. Her love for music began with an early interest in punk and hip-hop, and she credits artists like Grace Jones as her influences. Her early career includes singing background vocals for Outkast. Black Bottom is her second release, symbolic of a troubling, yet transitional period in Kali's life. The lyrics reflect moments of depression, fear, sedation, and release, found in songs like Pearl, Hollow ("can you love a girl who wears her pain like old, worn out shoes"), Caught, and her personal favorite, Warrior Bones, which she says is a call to action. Look for her on tour in Spring 2011.
