Maiysha's recent release, Undercover, pays homage to this singer's musical influence over the years. She opens her album with her rendition of Nancy Sinatra's "Bang Bang". Between the instrumentation and Maiysha's voice, you feel as if you are actually experiencing her live, but on vinyl. This excellent opener is just a taste of the other treats Maiysha graces her audience with. Some of the other covers include Madonna's "Hung Up", Jimi Hendrix "If 6 was 9", and The Beatles "I'm So Tired".
The purpose of a live album is to not only give you an encounter on record, but to also showcase the artists range. Maiysha's rendition of Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game" and Esther Phillips' cover "And I Love Him" (the track originally from the Beatles as well), puts me in a particular place every time I replay them. In "Wicked Game", the songstress makes the song her own as she croons "I don't want to fall in love...with you..." I particularly like this song for the simple fact that she was able to make the song her own. If I was not told it was a cover, I would not have known. The same mindset comes into play in her interpretation of "And I Love Him". This might just be my favorite song on the album. Maiysha is truly amazing as she sings to her heart's content. The listener has no choice but to sit back, close their eyes, and think of a love as she sings "I give him all my love...that's all I do..."
I have a special place in my heart for live music. Maiysha has definitely put herself at the top of my list. If you haven't had an opportunity to hear this beautiful songbird, please make it a top concert choice. Make sure you also pick up your copy of Maiysha Undercover today.
