Almost perfect: Most of these tracks are instant classics.
4.5
Talib Kweli & DJ Hi-Tek are back at it again as Reflection Eternal in their second studio album, Revolutions Per Minute. From start to finish you experience the “something for everybody” vibe. It starts off with City Playgrounds, which set the album off on the right note. Throughout the album, tracks vary between conscious and just down feel good music. Tracks like Midnight Hour (ft. Estelle) will have you wanting to groove with its up tempo. While lyrically deep tracks like Ballad of The Black Gold, which was one of my favorites, will have you feeling the message that has. It ends strong with the track My Life; Kweli paints a picture with the track which epitomizes real hip hop. The collaborations on the album had a delightful spin to feel, ranging from rappers like Jay Electronica, Bun B, J.Cole, and Mos Def to indie pop band Chester French. Overall, Revolutions Per Minute provides listeners with the combination of good music and the lyrics to match. It is one of those albums you will have to check out.
