Open Casket

by: TIRM Staff on Aug 28 2009
Open Casket is just that—a transparent look into the carcass we, for lack of forthrightness, refer to as—Hip-Hop. The beats are all produced by cultural critic/Hip-Hop columnist/one-time producer, Tolu Olorunda.
For three years until early ’08, Tolu produced beats. Many beats. At the start of the new year, he divorced this former love to pursue a career in writing, but found out soon after that the technique of writing is in no way different from that of beat-making—a nod to Lauryn Hill’s contention that “Everything Is Everything.”
Earlier this month, Tolu battled a local producer with 7 new beats. Those beats comprise the first 7 on this EP, while the last three are random selections from his vast, past catalogue.
Open Casket is dedicated to the memory of J Dilla, arguably the most prolific producer the Hip-Hop world has been blessed with. J Dilla—live forever!
