Queens MC Gist intends to bring back the "Essence" of Hip Hop, hence the name. I first heard him on a track called "Young Gifted & Black" that incorporated a Nina Simone sample and had some remarkable lyrics. However the thing that stuck out the most about the track was the fact that he sounded so good delivering those lyrics. Little Boxes is his latest offering, a free download available on his website and proof that the "Essence" of Hip Hop is still alive.
