The Foreign Exchange
"Daykeeper" Feat. Muhsinah

by: Travis Larrier on Sep 10 2008
“Daykeeper” is the first single from Hip hop/Soul duo The Foreign Exchange. Phonte Coleman (of Little Brother) and producer Nicolay’s sophomore album Leave It All Behind will feature a much darker and thematically different approach than the group’s seminal debut Connected. This lead single features Phonte in a different role, this time as a soul crooner, and includes Washignton, DC singer/songwriter Muhsinah. Backed by some colorful keyboard chords and distinct boom bap drums, Phonte and Muhsinah muse and harmonize about love, companionship, and separation.
The song is a distinct departure from the duo’s hip hop centric debut Connected. According to the album’s press release the album will feature more harmonic vocals and mix a wider swath of musical genres such as jazz, downtempo, and house. Leave It All Behind will also feature longtime affiliate Darien Brockington, Yazarah, and string arrangements by 4hero’s Marc Mac on a cover version of Stevie Wonder’s “If She Breaks Your Heart” off of the Jungle Fever soundtrack.
Leave It All Behind hits stores October 14, 2008.
