Above average: Not too shabby, commendable effort

Median’s Relief is the first full length album from Justice League’s Medain out of Raleigh, NC. Median stays in his lane, he is a rapper’s rapper, not as gifted as the best of the best, but can definitely hold his own. Relief is quality emceeing backed by soulful production which provides several smooth grooves.

Median covers subject matter that ranges from love, on the opening track “Love Again” to the ills and hardships of life on “Brenda’s Baby”. In one of the albums most creative songs “Personified”, one of four songs produced by 9th Wonder, Median takes the time to take us through his morning routine bringing everything to life from his toothbrush to his used car. “Similie” shows more of Median’s creativity building the entire song around similies about relationships. “Strides” is easily the most personal song, yet even when rhyming about becoming a man because your girl ends up pregnant Median still maintains his even-keeled flow.

At times Median’s Relief seems to slow down due to Median’s relaxed delivery. His emotion seems curtailed in spite of the somewhat personal nature of the album. The strongest weapon on Median’s emcee utility belt is his use of wordplay, to convey his messages. The problem with wordplay is that it may take multiple listens to really appreciate just how talented this guy really is. He doesn’t have captivating stories, or delivery, but Relief is an enjoyable listen, that will get better with more listens.
