Above average: Not too shabby, commendable effort

It's amazing to see the range of opinions about this album, I've heard everything from classic to the worst album of the year, and so let me attempt to add my own unbiased 2 cents. Some where along the line it seems fans developed this notion that anything outside of an artists usual range is an attempt to garner more fans by "selling out". If this is the true definition of selling out then Outkast fans should be up in arms, but that isn't the case, why? Because Outkast fans have come to expect a different sound from every album. This is where the problem lies for disgruntled J5 fans, the expectation that they will always sound the same has been shattered and some haven't accepted that, and actually listened without their personal biases.

Okay, now that's out of the way let's talk about the album. Feedback is J5's first foray into uncharted territory, Cut Chemist is completely absent and Nu-Mark attempts to establish his own sound. While not as polished as Cut Chemist, Nu-Mark shows that he has great potential, by unabashedly reaching in new directions. Sometimes this results in brilliance, but at times it appears to fall short on a few tracks, as it seems that some of the production may not be the best for J5's brand of Hip-Hop.  Lyrically this album is on par with all of J5's earlier work giving you a non-MTV/BET sound with either positive messages or playfully retro, lyrical sparring. Stand out tracks are: “Future Sound” a perfect execution of the new J5 sound, “Where We At”, classic J5 featuring Mos Def and “Canto De Ossanha”, a beautiful instrumental. All in all not a bad album. Hopefully they will continue their foray into experimentation with even more success in the future.
