From the country that gave us Floetry, comes another talented Brit, Corinne Bailey Rae the 26 year old Leeds native inevitably destined for superstardom. On her self titled debut album the singer/songwriter delivers brilliantly, commanding the attention of her listening audience with a style all her own. Reminiscent of the uniqueness of Sade, Billie Holiday or Jill Scott, she effortlessly delivers songs about the complexities of love, "all of the things people don't tell you about love" as she eloquently puts it. It's evident from the the first line of the the first song of the album " Like a Star" that you're in for a treat. With a voice as dainty and delicate as the summer dresses she wears, she pierces your emotions as you feel her pain on songs like "Choux Pastry Heart" and almost see the joy in "Put Your Records On". Song after song her English Lit. degree is showcased as she puts together music that can best be described as poetry. My favorites on the album? track 1-11, one of the best debut albums I think I've ever heard. Listen to the samples and you'll understand why.
