Gather round boys and girls the story of relationships, life, love and happiness has been put to music for your listening pleasure.  Has she been here before?  Does she live in my head?  She can’t be just 24, how cute.  Songstress Chrisette Michele Payne uses her writing talent and lyrical prowess to provide an innocent approach to love and relationships, while at the same time invoking sentimental feelings for each song.  In no other song out today has the temptation of post broke-up been captured so clearly then in the jazz standard influenced “Best of Me.”  Preceded by the cute bashfulness of a young girl crushing on a little drummer boy in “Like a Dream.”  Chrisette is not ashamed to make the pain of wanting someone seem so beautiful, while at the same time conveying the hardship in staying together in “Work It Out.”  “Love Is You” fills you up and dances you around with soft vocal display on top the piano keys on your wedding day.  The production and vast variety from track to track illustrates that this Island Def Jam recording artist Chrisette Michelle debut album I AM has positioned her ahead of the game.  After listening to the following tracks, I have no doubt this “Good Girl” will “Be Ok.”

Rock On, Rock Out!

I was gassed when i first heard this album...now not as much.  I guess i was just feenin for some real good RnB.  And given the current climate of R.Kelly's and T Pain's this really is a welcom listen.  But its just something about it that doesnt have the replay value that i want.  Plus this chick's "neo-Ella Fitzgerald" image is becoming annoying to me.

I dunno I'm kinda feeling this joint I just started listening to it at the begining of the week and I can't think of another R&B artist out right now that can match her vocally. The unfortunate part is that they aren't quite sure how to market her, she's somewhere between a Norah Jones and a Mary J in what they're trying to do with her.

Off top I'll take Teedra Moses, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Alice Smith, and hell even Adriana Evans over this chick any day.  I'm sure there's a slew i'm leaving out.  She has some high priced producers on this joint, so the music is definitely tight (read: glossy), so in that regard its cool, but her image just seems so gimmicky.

The only one out of that group that is an R&B artist is Teedra, and the only one that can match her vocally is Alice. Yeah she does seem a litle gimmicky but that's because of her label, they completely changed her image and and are telling her how to sing too.

When I first saw the album in store, I did not know who she was and took a chance on her. This album is not like any other album thats out right now. Chrisette Michele is deep and her music has true meaning and its real. All the tracks on this Cd are great but "Golden" blew me away, it sent chill down my spine when that song was playing. Ms. Michele has stay power in my book in a world were we need good music that has meaning.

Yeah those ladies you named can sing and got their own thing going. But with Chrisette, she does have some high-priced producer but she can sing. I usually don't get into R&B music but her album is good. I listen to it every once and I'm glad I have it. Not too dure about the image. I mean, it sounds like she mixes in a bit of the jazz style of what she does but it keeps it up to date with what people are doing now. That "Good Girl" song is pretty ill.
